چکیده

This paper describes a basic difference between multiwavelets and scalar wavelets that explains, without using zero moment properties, why certain complications arise in the implementation of discrete multiwavelet transforms. Assuming we wish to avoid the use of prefilters in implementing the discrete multiwavelet transform, it is suggested that the behavior of the iterated filter bank associated with a multiwavelet basis of multiplicity is more fully revealed by an expanded set of 2 scaling functions . This paper also introduces new -balanced orthogonal multiwavelet bases based on symmetric FIR filters. The nonlinear design equations arising in this work are solved using the Gröbner basis. The minimal-length -balanced multiwavelet bases based on even-length symmetric FIR filters are better behaved than those based on odd-length symmetric FIR filters, as illustrated by special relations they satisfy and by examples constructed.

High-order balanced M-band orthogonal multiwavelet: Construction and application

This article proposed an approach to construct high-order balanced M-band (M>2) orthogonal multiwavelets with symmetric property, and demonstrated the advantages of our constructed multiwavelet systems in digital elevation model (DEM) generalization application over some other wavelet systems. We studied the theories related to the key properties of M-band multiwavelets, such as orthogonality, ...

Multiwavelet bases with extra approximation properties

This paper highlights the differences between traditional wavelet and multiwavelet bases with equal approximation order. Because multiwavelet bases normally lack important properties that traditional wavelet bases (of equal approximation order) possess, the associated discrete multiwavelet transform is less useful for signal processing unless it is preceded by a preprocessing step (prefiltering...

Multiwavelets on the Interval

Smooth orthogonal and biorthogonal multiwavelets on the real line with their scaling function vectors being supported on [−1, 1] are of interest in constructing wavelet bases on the interval [0, 1] due to their simple structure. In this paper, we shall present a symmetric C orthogonal multiwavelet with multiplicity 4 such that its orthogonal scaling function vector is supported on [−1, 1], has ...

Multiwavelets in the Context of Hierarchical Stereo Correspondence Matching Techniques

This paper presents an evaluation of different types and families of multiwavelets in stereo correspondence matching. First, the paper introduces two hierarchical stereo matching techniques based on balanced and respectively unbalanced multiwavelet transforms, which employ normalized cross correlation to search for disparities. Different multiwavelet families, with different properties and filt...

Omnidirectionally Balanced Multiwavelets for Vector Wavelet Transforms

Vector wavelet transforms for vector-valued fields can be implemented directly from multiwavelets; however, existing multiwavelets offer surprisingly poor performance for transforms in vector-valued signal-processing applications. In this paper, the reason for this performance failure is identified, and a remedy is proposed. A multiwavelet design criterion, omnidirectional balancing, is introdu...
